Educational Videos: Fundamentals of Placemaking
An Introduction to a Placemaking Mini-series
Placemaking is many things at once and it can be a complex concept to grasp. Recognising this gap in knowledge, the Shophouse & Co team have been publishing a few videos to give a glimpse into some of the fundamental questions that we often receive, not just through our lens, but also from other practitioners around the world.
For starters, we attempt to explore the fundamentals: What it is, Who can/should be involved in it, and How to do it. They are short and digestible 3-minute clips, and we think that it gives a good introduction to the work that placemakers are doing for their cities.
These clips were shot when we were at Placemaking Week 2017 in Amsterdam where we presented our work, and connected with our fellow practitioners who are all advancing the cause and discipline. If you like these videos, please let us know right here, on our social channels (IG & FB), or a comment on YouTube!
Episode 1: What is Placemaking?
“Placemaking is about how we all create our public realm…it is a form of community organising, facilitating, bringing together people and challenging communities to get involved.”
Episode 2: Our role in Placemaking
“It’s really important for every city, every society, to have activists and advocates who are challenging and demanding for a better environment, and a better system.”
Episode 3: How should we make our places?
“We need to take more love and care of the city, and we need to take more love and care of each other,”
